HOMEWORK#3

Today we discussed the language of clothes.

1. Do you judge people according to what they wear? Why?

I often judge people according to what they wear. Because I can know that people's liking. For example, if a person almost wear black clothes, I understand that this person like black color. And I can sometimes know someone's personality by clothes.

2. Do you think Japanese society puts an importance on clothing when judging other people from another country?

I don't think so. In my opinion, it is the most important to know people's feelings. When I first met a person, I know a partner by talking each other. Occasionally, I judge that wearing other people from another country, but I think that it's a rude to judge a person how they look.

3. What colors are you wearing now? Do they reflect your mood?

I'm wearing now pink shirts and jeans. I wear a favorite color. I decide to wear clothes by the weather or a favorite clothes. They don't reflect my mood, but they sometimes say, "Today's clothes is good."

Next week we will discuss friends, please prepare by answering the following questions.

1. What are some subjects that you will never discuss with a friend?

I talk about various things with my friends. I think that I don't talk about sports and the bad mouth on friend. Because I'm not interested in sports, so I almost never watch spots programs. I don't like talking about the bad mouth on friend. If someone speak evil of me, I'm very unpleasant. I don't want to do what oneself don't want not to be done.

2. Do you have different friends for different parts of your life? If so, how are they different to you? Do you talk about different things? Go to different places? Give me some examples.

I almost have friends who the same preference hobby of my life. But I have a friend who the preference of clothes is different, and a friend who preference is different. When I talk with my friends, I talk about different topics individually. If I talk with a friend who likes watching TV, I talk about the actor who appear on TV and the recent interesting drama. Next, if I talk with the friend of the university, I talk about classes of the school. Even if a hobby and the topic of story are different, I go to the same places with my friends. For example, I eat lunch at fast food and go to the movie.

I don't have any international friends or a host family. If I express consolences to them, I can't speak a word to them because they shocked at her death. I express them something, and I think that I express to keep their spirits high. Then, I sit down beside them.

2. The language of Clothes (preparation for next weeks topic)

a.Why are Japanese designer label crazy? Why is what you wear so important?

Because I think that they are fascinated with designer's idea or fashion model. And, me too. They pay a lot of money because they want to buy brand-name goods. When I take the job, I want to buy it one or two.

The wearing clothes in Japan is judged by a person. Japanese clothes have personality. they sometimes judge their character by clothes. So Japanese people care a lot about their personal appearance. When I went to foreign country, their clothes is simple, but I think that their clothes is cool!! I think that Japanese people should learn them.

b.What does “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.” mean to you?

I think that “Don't judge a book by it's cover.” means “Don't judge a person how they looks.” A little while ago, I talked about judging their character by clothes. I often judge a person by their appearance or clothes. When I choose a book, I surely decide to read a book's plot. I think that I can know the person for the first time by talking with the person.

1. Today we discussed the Japanese concept of "wrapping". Do you agree with the web site's description? What do you do that can be called "wrapping"? Give examples and reasons for your actions.

I agree with the web site's description. There are some word of wrapping in Japan. For example, "honne" , "tatemae" and so on. These words mean a feeling of consideration for a partner. If Japanese people was asked something, they don't reject it well because they feel sorry to reject it. Comparing Japan with other country, and other country people talk straightly. I think that talking to a partner straightly is good, but occasionally, people were hurt by this word. Japanese people are reserved, but this action make allowance for a partner.

a. Where do you go when you die?

Maybe, if I die, I will go to heaven or fall the pits of hell. Many people believe to go to heaven when they did a good deed in their life. Conversely, they think to fall the pits of hell when they did a bad deed in their life.

b. Explain why do Japanese have death memorial services 1 month, 1 year, 3 years, 7 years, etc. after a person's death?

Japanese people hold a ceremony, so they hold a memorial service for a person's death. They have the custom of valuing the ancestor. I think that several death memorial service is never forget a person's death. Therefore, there is a Buddhist altar in several Japanese hause. They make offerings of flowers and incense at Buddhist altars. A person's death is as important as for them to the god.
